Course Overview

Course Overview
This course is part of our DICE programme and is designed for adults with an experience of mental health issues.

• You will have the opportunity to try writing in a range of different forms, including poetry, stories, descriptions, and dialogue.

• You will learn about techniques and how to edit and develop your work. We work on new pieces every week, but you are welcome to return to pieces that you have written previously, and spend more time on them.

• We often begin a class by reading a poem or an extract from a story by a writer.

• We discuss their subject, style and technique, then talk and write about our own ideas springing from this piece. Sometimes we write in response to pictures or music.

• There is plenty of time in class for you to write.

• At the end of each session, you are welcome to share your work by reading it aloud, or giving it to the tutor to read aloud. However, there is NO PRESSURE for anyone to share their work; you may wish to keep it private, or simply give it to the tutor to read and comment on.

• Learners regularly evaluate their own work, with support from the tutor. You will be able to discuss how you feel your work is progressing and how you can improve further.

• No prior knowledge or qualifications are needed.
