Course Overview

Course Overview:
This course is for absolute beginners. In a friendly and relaxing setting, you will learn how to
introduce yourself and others. Order tapas and drinks at bars. Order meals at restaurants. Ask
for, understand, and give directions. Buy goods in a local market, understand prices, and learn
how to haggle. Enquire about departure and arrival times. Express likes and dislikes. Talk about
your hobbies and preferences. Speak about what you do now and what you used to do in your
free time. Basic elements of Spanish grammar will be introduced.
Outline of course content:
Starting from the most basic aspects of the Spanish language, the alphabet, numbers and
pronunciation, you will be listening to and speaking Spanish from the first day. Cultural aspects
of the Spanish-speaking world are introduced through class activities, online resources and by
joining the book club. The main aspect of each lesson is conversation practice.
By the end of this course you will be familiar with essential aspects of the Spanish language.
You will have also acquired relevant vocabulary to hold a simple conversation in Spanish.

Eligibility:

Those who are not currently in education, training or employment and are in receipt of state benefits or support (excluding state retirement pension). those aged 50 plus who are not in full-time employment.
