In addition to the school-based courses, National Standard Cycle Training courses are held during the school holidays by The Road Safety Team at Maindy Leisure Centre.
The course is open to all Cardiff children that have either missed or not received cycle training at their school. All children must be aged 9 years and above, and are able to ride a bike. The course runs for four consecutive mornings.
Level 2 will take place on risk assessed roads near the Road Safety Centre in Maindy. Level 1 will be included on the first day.
Trainees are expected to make judgements and decisions at junctions and roads with traffic whilst turning left and right.
Wearing a cycle helmet is compulsory for all of our cycle training courses.
Please be aware that children cannot be taken on the three on-road training sessions unless they have successfully completed Level 1. (held on day 1)
All participants must bring their own bike and helmet.
Parents are free to stay and watch the first day, but not expected to stay for the following 3 days as training will be off-site.
