Course Overview
The course explores watercolour in combination with Mixed Media. Some experience with art making is recommended however, step-by-step demonstrations are provided throughout for all abilities to follow. An exciting and expressive course discovering the wonders of watercolour in combination with other media.

The course will cover practices combining; watercolour, charcoal, watercolour pencils, dry pastels, pen and inks, wax resist, masking fluid and/or white gouache. Including experimental collage with tissue paper and other materials.


Instruction will be given throughout the Year (Term 1-3) on a variety of themes; perspective, portrait and figures, expressive/abstract sketching, and representational drawing. Exploring various themes such as from the animal world, nature, emotions/senses, landscape, seascapes, people, still life and buildings.


The course will begin with Watercolour Techniques, Pen and Ink and Collage.

You will be sent regular information via a WhatApp group, for the media and themes, with advice on where to purchase additional materials prior to each project.

Projects will begin with drawing practice and exploring techniques to prepare you for the art making. Followed by full demonstrations for each stage making the artwork.

Projects are spread over 1-3 weeks to give you plenty of time to complete each artwork.

Sketch pad
HB pencils (For drawings for watercolour you mainly need just the HB pencil) or watercolour pencils.
Pencil sharpener
Charcoal
Faber Castell Putty Rubber in a case
A set of Watercolours pans or tubes i.e: Good Value Medium Quality Watercolour Tubes
Brushes: Small, medium and large, round, flat, fan and rigger for watercolours.
Kitchen towel and masking tape
White Gouache
Wax
Masking Fluid
Watercolour pad 300 gsm
Waterproof set of Pen and Ink or Dip Pen and Ink.
Soft Pastels

Recommended colours list:
Basic Watercolours - Cadmium Red, Alizarine Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Sap Green, Viridian Green, Burnt Sienna, French Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue,

Additional Colours – Permanent Rose, Opera pink, Violet, ….the list is extensive so it’s nice to pick a few random extras of your choosing as time goes on to add to your collection.
