Course Overview

Course Overview
This Lower Advanced French course is for students who have a sound working knowledge of French. You can understand French spoken by native speakers in a variety of different situations and can deal with most situations likely to arise when travelling in French speaking countries. The course is level B1 on the European Framework. By the end of the course you will have expanded your vocabulary and cultural awareness. You will speak French with more accuracy, fluency and confidence. There will be the opportunity to participate in the Cardiff Nantes Exchange.

The emphasis of the course is on developing your communication skills. The first part of the lesson starts with some general conversation. We talk about what you have done recently or what you are planning to do. You can manipulate the past, future and present tenses with ease and will gain more confidence using other tenses.
Students often talk about a news item that has interested them. This then develops into discussions with an exchange of views and opinions. The second part of the lesson is more structured. This year we will be using the French course book Le Nouvel Édito B1 with topics including generations, housing, education and communication. I have copies available for £26.
We will also recap grammar points (past tenses, pronouns and the subjunctive). Homework may include grammar exercises, vocabulary learning or preparation for class discussions.
