This course would be useful for anyone who is interested in working in schools, whether mainstream or specialist, and also anyone who is interested in support work with adults.
We will consider what is meant by the term ‘Learning Disability’. We will look at different types of Learning Disabilities and their causes. Learning Disabilities often co-exist with other conditions such as autism or dyspraxia, so we will briefly consider these too.
We will discuss how to support people in a ‘person-centred’ way, being respectful of people’s rights, needs and different communication styles.
