Getting into the 'Creative Flow'Immerse yourself in the process of creating a unique, expressive abstract seascape inspired by wild waves. This workshop combines technical exploration with artistic freedom, allowing you to build layers and texture while experiencing the joy of creative flow.
Through demonstrations and guided support, you’ll learn how to:
• Use collage materials and acrylic mediums to add depth and texture.
• Apply techniques like block and blend, wet-in-wet, impasto, and splattering to create dynamic effects.
• Explore composition and colour mixing, focusing on the vibrant hues of the sea.

Workshop Structure

Morning:
• Introduction and demonstrations on composition and colour mixing.
• Experiment with tools such as brushes, palette knives, acrylic paints, and mediums like texture paste and impasto gel.
• Learn layering techniques to capture depth, movement, and atmosphere in your seascape.
Afternoon:
• Plan your painting with a ‘plot drawing’ on paper, selecting a limited colour palette and composition.
• Begin your canvas work, starting with collage and lean or impasto layers.
• Work independently, with guidance and feedback from the tutor, to complete your own abstract wild waves seascape.

What should I bring to the first lesson?

What should I bring to the first lesson?
Feel free to bring reference photos or sketches for inspiration – the tutor will also provide a selection to share.
Materials
• HB Pencil and Rubber
• Sketch Paper (A4 or A3, 130gsm-170gsm)
• Primed Medium-Sized Canvas (e.g., 14" x 18", square or rectangular)
• Palette Knives (available to borrow if needed)
• A range of Brushes (small, medium, large, round, flat, bristle, and synthetic for acrylics – some will also be available to borrow)
• 2 Jars for water
• Wet Palette Tray (e.g., a shallow Tupperware container with kitchen roll and greaseproof paper)

Collage Materials:
• Tissue Paper, scrap paper, string, and recycled packaging. A selection will also be available to share.
Paints:
• Essential Colours: Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Viridian Green, Primary Yellow, and Primary Red.
• Optional Colours: Phthalo Blue, Cobalt Blue, Lemon Yellow, Magenta, Alizarin Crimson, Turquoise, Cerulean, Violet, and others that reflect your personality.

Acrylic Mediums:
• Texture Paste
• Glazing Medium
• Impasto Gel
