Course Overview
Painting and Drawing the Figure offers the opportunity to study the human form, working with a life model each week. Learn to draw the figure by exploring a variety of drawing techniques and approaches, helping you to develop your skills with line, tone, shape, shade, texture and scale. Learn the technical aspects of painting the figure such as how to mix flesh tones, experiment with brushes and palette knives and explore a range of mediums and grounds. Gain a greater understanding of observation and composing the figure in space.

What should I bring to the first lesson?

What should I bring to the first lesson?
Drawing materials - One box of willow charcoal, masking tape, a range of drawing pencils and an eraser for the first session. A1 and A2 white cartridge paper will be available to purchase from the centre. If you are wanting to use a sketchbook, please bring size A2 or A3 at least.
Painting materials – Whichever your preferred choice, such as watercolours, acrylics, oil etc.
Painters to bring with them within your chosen medium:

• Warm Red e.g - Cadmium Red
• Cool Red e.g - Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Red
• Warm Blue e.g – Cerulean, Manganese or Pthalo Blue
• Cool Blue e.g - Ultramarine Blue
• Warm Yellow e.g - Cadmium Yellow
• Cool Yellow e.g - Lemon Yellow
• Yellow Ochre
• Viridian Green
• Titanium White
• Black
Also: rags, palette, palette knives, masking tape, flat and or round brushes - if possible, sizes 2, 4 and 8, low odour artist white spirit or turpentine (for oil painters), brush washing jar.
Various sized surfaces to paint onto such as – Primed canvas, canvas board, primed oil paper / acrylic paper pad, watercolour paper, primed boards, whichever you feel comfortable using.
