The course is open to all Cardiff children that have either missed or not received cycle training at their school. All children must be aged 9 years and above and must be able to ride a bike.
Level 1 will be taught and assessed on day 1 using the Road Safety Centre’s road training layout.
This includes:
• Checking your bike and your clothing.
• Making sure your helmet fits.
• Getting on and off the bike.
• Starting and stopping safely.
• Controlling your bike.
• Signalling and looking back.
Level 2 will take place on risk assessed roads near the Road Safety Centre in Maindy.
Trainees are expected to make judgements and decisions at junctions and roads with traffic whilst turning left and right.
All participants should bring their own bike and helmet. Wearing a cycle helmet is compulsory.
If you are having difficulties bringing a bike to the centre bikes & helmets can be provided free of charge.
Please be aware that children cannot be taken on the 3 on-road training sessions unless they have successfully completed Level 1.
