Course Overview

Course Overview
This course is aimed at students who have followed an Adult Education course for 3 years or who have been working independently and are now in a position to put their French into practice in a group situation. You will develop your French from Beginners to Intermediate level. With a maximum of 15 students, there is ample opportunity to practise and develop your French in a friendly and supportive environment. The emphasis is on communicating in French with some grammatical explanations to develop your accuracy.
The class starts with some general conversation in small groups, talking about what you have done recently, your plans or general topics of interest. The second part is based on Façon de Parler 1 unit 21 which covers the topic of holiday plans. You will learn to use the future tense and practise modal verbs (vouloir, pouvoir, devoir). We will then start Façon de Parler 2 which takes you from Beginner level to GCSE and beyond. We will start with introductions and exchanging personal details, before progressing to talking about recent activities using the perfect (past) tense. Each unit contains dialogues which you listen to before developing into role plays. We will also read authentic texts to improve your comprehension skills and expand your vocabulary.
Past and future tenses will be recapped as well as other grammar points. The emphasis is on speaking and understanding French. Some written exercises are completed for homework to reinforce class work.
There is the opportunity to take part in the Cardiff- Nantes Adult Exchange, visiting Nantes from 17th-24th April 2027 and a return visit by the French to Cardiff from 12th- 19th June 2027.

If you are new to the group, you don’t need to buy Façon de Parler 1, I have some second hand copies.
