This course is aimed at students who are ready to move on from basic French. You might have a rusty GCSE or O Level or you have followed an Adult Education course for a five years. Perhaps you have done some self study and are now ready to put your French into practice in a group situation. The class is held in a small group with a friendly and supportive environment. The majority of the lesson is conducted in French but help is given with vocabulary and grammatical explanations.
We start the class with some general conversation talking about what you have done recently, your future plans or your interests. The second part of the class is based on A2 Édito 2e édition units 7-12. The coursebook includes authentic texts and downloadable audio material as well as written exercises to practise grammar points. You will develop your ability to speak, understand, read and write French in a range of useful everyday settings.
The topics we will cover include health and the media in term 1, responsible consumption, travel and tourism in term 2, education, the world of work and nature in term 3. Although the emphasis is on speaking and listening, there will be an opportunity to brush up on your grammar ( pronouns) and practise different tenses (present, past and future) as well as learning to say what you would like to do using the conditional tense. There will be an introduction to the subjunctive and passive.
The course focuses on the standard French of France but also explores the wider French-speaking world. We will learn about other francophone areas such as Quebec, Switzerland and the Ivory Coast.
