This introductory course is ideal for anyone who is new to the subject of Child psychology and would like to gain a greater understanding of children’s behaviour and development.
We explore the main causes of the way children think and behave - Is it just their personality from birth? - may be their experiences in life? - Is it both?
We look at research on the subject and cover the basics of research methods.
There is a focus on Attachment theory: whether a young child’s early experiences with their main carers affects later behaviour; we compare different findings and beliefs.
We look at how a child develops the ability to communicate through language and discuss why most children can do this so rapidly.
Finally, we look at Gender: what makes children behave like a boy or a girl: Is their behaviour a result of their sex: just being born as a boy or a girl, or are children influenced by those around them?
No prior knowledge or qualification is needed, just an interest in understanding children.
